At GCSE, students study AQA Product Design. Students select their own project from a short list sent by the exam board; this allows students to complete course work tailored to their best abilities.
The course work makes up 60% of the GCSE, but a two hour exam counts for 40% of the GCSE, so the students must thoroughly know their theoretical part of the syllabus. As the GCSE course starts in Year 9, a lot of time is spent on bringing up skills to a high standard. This is done through various projects and focussed tasks which are designed to encourage creativity, originality and flair.
