Classical Civilisation is offered as an optional subject in Year 9 and has an excellent success rate at GCSE.  The GCSE course (following the AQA specification) is taught over three years, is modular in structure and deals (wholly in English) with particular aspects of Greek and Roman Life which have contributed to the way we live today.  Topics studied vary from year to year but may include: Social Life in Rome in the First Century AD, Pompeii and Herculaneum, The Ancient Olympics and Panathenaia, Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad, Greek Tragedy and Drama Festivals, Greek Comedy, Virgil’s Aeneid and Athenian Pottery.

Assessment is through three Unit exams at the end of Year 11 and a Controlled Assessment task at the end of Year 10/beginning of Year 11.
