All pupils study Food in Key Stage 3 as part of the Technology carousal. The syllabus focuses on the “Eat Well Plate” and the pupil’s diet to include 5 fruit or vegetables a day. A range of practicals ensure that all pupils gain hands on experience of working with a wide range of ingredients so they can investigate various methods of combining and cooking. This includes Cheesy Pasta bake, Fresh Fruit Salad and Oat Cookies which are always a favourite. Pupils supply their ingredients from home and return home with their final products. In year 8 pupils develop an awareness of economic, social, cultural and environmental considerations in relation to food production and purchasing. Following this they undertake a new food product design task focused on their research. Practical skills are also important and products included are Pizza, Baked Samosas and Banana Slice.
