At key stage 5, students study AS/A2 Music. Many of the students who take these courses have gone on to read music at University. Those who go on to study music in the sixth-form will be proficient in their instrument (usually equivalent to grade five standard) and contribute to the department on a regular basis. Students at this level take on leadership within the department. This may involve assisting in the running of ensemble rehearsals or helping younger members of the school with their ensemble work. Set works are studied in depth, allowing the analytical skills used at GCSE to be developed further, giving invaluable experience for tertiary courses.
