Upton Court Grammar School student, Megan Smith, 15, represented Great Britain in the 2015 European Championships for Acrobatic Gymnastics, in Riesa, Germany, and came third overall.
Performing as part of a trio of girls, Megan beat most of the 29 other trios in performances over two days, and finished in second place behind Russia, securing a place in the top 8 finals.
Despite facing stiff opposition in the finals, Megan and her team performed with grace, elegance and confidence, and came third overall securing a Bronze medal. Gold and silver medals were awarded to teams from Russia and Israel.
Megan’s parents Claire and Wayne Smith watched with delight as their daughter performed, and later said “We are absolutely over the moon with the whole experience and so very pleased and proud of the girls with the amazing result.”
Megan is now in her final year of GCSEs, and will now be taking a break from gymnastics to focus on academic studies to fulfil her dream of becoming a medical doctor.
Upton Court Grammar School Principal, Mercedes Hernandez Estrada said “Megan truly understands that success does not come without hard work and preparation. She is a remarkable young lady who gives 100% to everything she does.”
