Safeguarding
Upton Court Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people: the child or young person’s welfare is our overriding concern. Each school within the Trust has a safeguarding team whose details can be found below.
Our Safeguarding team: Our Safeguarding Team at UCGS
The schools within the Trust provide a caring, positive, stimulating and safe environment in which pupils can flourish academically and personally, and we ensure that pupils are enabled to develop socially, emotionally, physically and morally. As such, all adults, including volunteers, governors, trustees, visitors and temporary staff have an active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm.
The Trust has a Child Protection Policy in place. This policy can be found below.
Pioneer Child Protection and Safeguarding
Having the policy in place ensures that all members of the school community:
- Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection;
- Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern;
- Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding;
- Are aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse;
- Fully support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child or young person’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child or young person’s welfare.
First Aid, Medical Needs and Allergy Safety
The health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils is a priority at UCGS. We have trained staff and clear procedures in place to respond to accidents, illness and medical emergencies during the school day. We work closely with pupils, parents/carers and relevant healthcare professionals to ensure that individual medical needs are understood and appropriately supported, including through Individual Healthcare Plans where required.
We recognise that allergies can be serious and, in some cases, life-threatening. In line with statutory guidance on allergy safety in schools, UCGS has arrangements in place to identify and support pupils with allergies, reduce the risk of exposure to known allergens and ensure staff understand how to recognise and respond to allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Appropriate emergency medication, including adrenaline auto-injectors, is managed and made accessible in accordance with statutory guidance and individual pupils’ healthcare arrangements.
Our procedures also cover the safe management and administration of medication, staff training, record keeping and responding to medical emergencies, helping pupils with medical conditions and allergies to access education safely and participate fully in school life.
Further information can be found in our First Aid Policy, Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy found Here
Each school within the Trust has a safeguarding team details of which for this school can be found below.
If you have any concerns about a child or young person’s welfare, please record your concern and report this to one of the school’s safeguarding team as soon as possible on the same day. It is important that you do not conduct your own investigation. Please report your concern to UCG_DSL@uptoncourtgrammar.org.uk
If your concerns relate to the behaviour or actions of a member of staff, then you should report this directly to the Head of School (or to the Chair of Governors if it relates to the Head of School).
